The Stories Behind West Virginia Sports

About DUBVSN

What DUBVSN is

DUBVSN covers West Virginia high school sports the way nobody else does — as stories.

We make mini-documentaries, player features, coach interviews, and photography across the Mountain State Athletic Conference. We don't do scores, rankings, or standings-as-news. Plenty of outlets do that, and do it well. What nobody does here is sit at a Tuesday practice long enough to find out who the kid in the number actually is.

Every piece we make has to pass one test: will this still be worth watching a year from now?

Who's behind it

I'm Charles Minimah Jr. I'm from Charleston, and DUBVSN is one person. I shoot it, cut it, write it, and post it.

I've been photographing West Virginia high school games since 2017 — mostly handing pictures back to families who wanted to keep a moment. This season the work grows into film and storytelling, and stays where it's always been: on the sidelines of the schools in this valley.

For athletic directors and coaches

You're being asked to let a camera near your students. That's a real decision and I don't take it lightly.

I work entirely within whatever your school and county require. That includes consent and release forms, parent notification, and letting you or a coach see anything featuring your students before it publishes. I carry general liability insurance and can provide a certificate on request.

I also do paid work — team and media day portraits, action photo galleries, and highlight and recruiting video. I mention that here rather than letting you find out in October. Anything commercial at your school gets cleared with you first.

What we're covering this fall

Football, volleyball, soccer, cross country, golf, and cheer across the twelve MSAC schools. Football is the front door. The other sports are where we spend just as much time.
